Autumn update: club gear, quiz night and more!

An update on club gear, fundraising quiz, key dates for the autumn term and registration.

Club gear

The club gear page is now live with information about clothing, water polo suits and clubs bags.

This season we’ve switched suppliers to Bourke Sports. You can order directly from their online store with home delivery or free delivery to their Belfast store.

To get clothes by Christmas you will have to order by 27 November at the very latest.

The togs order must be completed by Friday 4 November. Unfortunately our supplier hasn’t been able to guarantee delivery by Christmas.

Any questions, get in touch or contact Rónán.

Halloween break

Junior sessions have taken a break this week. The Falls session won’t take place on Thursday 27 October. The BRA session won’t take place on Tuesday 1 November. We’re back in our normal schedule from Thursday 3 November.

Club Quiz

We’re running a fundraising quiz on Friday 18 November at Cliftonville Bowls Club.

8pm start and £5 per ticket.

It’s a great chance to meet up, have a bit of craic and raise some money for the club.

There will be prizes for the winners, and a raffle and spot prizes on the night. Come along with family and friends!

Registration

Thanks to all players and parents / guardians who registered.

We are processing payments and will be in touch if there are any issues.

If you haven’t registered yet, you still can at the link below:

Junior blitzes

Matches are up and running this season. The U14s have been in action in the All-Ireland U14 league while the U9s and U11s played in the first Ulster blitz series last week.

To aid development, we’ve arranged a series of monthly friendlies with Diamonds for U9 to U15 teams.

We kick off the first week in November:

  • U9 and U11 teams, Grove Pool, Wednesday 2 November, 6pm to 7pm

  • U13 and U15 teams, our session in the Falls, Thursday 3 November, 7.45pm to 8.45pm

New season - info on sessions, registration and matches

Information about registration, sessions starting back, fixtures, fundraising and opportunities to volunteer.

Registration

All players who play matches for the club must complete the club registration form.

The registration fee is payable for all players except those registering for the first time. Information on fees and family discounts are included in the below link.

Junior sessions

U13s and U15s start back on Thursday 1 September in the Falls Leisure Centre at 7.45pm to 8.45pm.

U9s and U11s start back the week after, on Thursday 8 September in the Falls Leisure Centre at 6.45pm.

Senior sessions

The senior session starts back on Wednesday 31 August from 8.00 to 9.30.

Fixtures

National League fixtures for seniors and U14s have been published for September and October. They are available at the link below. Coaches and team managers will be in touch with players to get availability.

Volunteer opportunities

We have a number of opportunities for players, members, parents or guardians to volunteer to help the club.

Without volunteers the club can’t function. It’s a great way to meet people and the time commitment is minimal. Full training is provided and we’ll throw in a t-shirt too.

If you’d like to know more about any of the roles, get in touch or speak to Rónán.

  • Membership officer

  • Parent rota at junior sessions

  • Team managers for junior teams

Fundraiser

The club is running a poker night in St Malachy’s Old Boys Club on Saturday 24 September. It’s open to anyone and it would be great to see players, coaches, parents and friends of the club for some early season socialising.

Spring update for juniors and seniors

Information on training, matches and organising for senior and junior players - Spring 2022.

Seniors

Fixtures

The Division 1 squad had it’s final league game against Drogheda in Belfast last weekend. The seniors’ season has now finished and training has ceased for the summer.

We plan to play Men’s National League Division 2, next year. It is a good opportunity for younger players to gain experience at senior level. The club will be in touch during the summer to assess interest and notify players of pre-season training arrangements.

Juniors

Team App

We are trialing the use of Team App for the remainder of this season for our junior players and parents.

Team App is a free sports team management app. It sends reminders for events such as training and matches. It also allows us to invite individual members to games and to record attendance at training sessions and matches. Finally, it allows us to share files, photos and polls within teams.

At the end of the season we’ll ask for feedback and make a decision on whether to use it across the club next season.

The easiest way to take part is to download the Team App search for 'Cú Chulainn Water Polo Club' and request to join.

When creating a profile, please join with your own details, include a number for emergency contact and include your child’s full name and date of birth in the “notes” section.

Spring series junior blitzes

The following games have been announced by Ulster Water Polo. Invites will be sent via Team App.

  • Newry Blitz, Saturday 11 June, 4pm to 6pm for U11s

  • Tommy Kirk Tournament, 25th June in Lisnasharragh, U11s 2pm to 4pm and U13s 4pm to 8pm.

U11s are boys and girls born 2011 and 2012. U13s are boys and girls born 2009 and 2010.

We would be grateful if parents could consider whether they are prepared to provide lifts for teammates of their own children to the Newry fixture.

Irish U12 Mixed Cup

For boys and girls born 2010 and later, this Cup will be held in the NAC Dublin.

It is provisionally scheduled to be held on 17 to 19 June.

We have entered a team and are waiting for further details including when the matches will take place. An invite for eligible players will be sent via Team App.

Training and the summer break

Spring Bank Holiday

The Falls Leisure Centre will be closed on Thursday 2 June for the Bank Holiday. Training as normal the following week.

Summer break

Our final junior session before the summer break will be Thursday 23 June in the Falls Leisure Centre. We will break over July and August. Sessions will resume in the week beginning the 5 September 2022.
